WHY IS BAPTISM IMPORTANT?
It’s important because Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19–20). Baptism is the means by which a person makes a public profession of faith and discipleship. In the waters of baptism, a person is saying “I publicly confess faith in Jesus’.
WHAT DOES BAPTISM MEAN FOR ME?
Baptism illustrates the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. At the same time, it also illustrates our death to selfishness and a new life in Christ. Very simply, baptism is an outward expression of an inward change. Baptism is an act of obedience to God. Being baptised doesn’t make anyone a Christian. It’s what happens after a person has come to their own personal faith in Jesus.
HOW LONG SHOULD I WAIT BEFORE GETTING BAPTISED?
We believe that a new believer in Jesus should desire to be baptised as soon as is practically possible. For example, in Acts 8 Philip baptised a new believer immediately after they believed. So there’s no need to wait for a long time before you get baptised.
